About us

The library at the Research Centre for Eastern and Southeastern European Studies is a joint institution of the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) and the Institute for East European Law (IOR). It collects and catalogues academic literature from the fields of history, economics, law, politics, literature and linguistics (Slavic studies, Finno-Ugric studies, Romanian studies, Albanology), regional studies, society, culture and religion from all the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. With a total of around 360,000 bibliographic units, the library is one of the largest in the city of Regensburg and one of the largest collections specialising in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.

The stacks holdings of the IOS (shelfmark beginnings W 01 and W 02) can be borrowed for two weeks with the option of a one-off two-week extension. This requires a library card, which can be issued on site on presentation of a valid photo ID. The reading room collection and journals as well as the IOR collection (W 03) are not available for loan.

Through the systematic acquisition of literature, the institutes have amassed a valuable collection over the decades of their existence. The library acquires numerous journals through purchase and exchange, so that a wide range of periodicals is available. Its good networking is reflected in its participation in the two specialised portals osmikon and International Relations and Area Studies (IREON).
